Science

In science we completed a germ experiment as part of our hygiene lesson. We discussed the importance of covering our mouth and nose when we sneeze to stop germs spreading. Our experiment consisted of using spray bottles to represent the germs we spread when we sneeze. We measured the distance the germs travelled by spraying paint at paper from different distances. In conclusion, year 2 discovered that the germs from a sneeze can travel up to 6 metres!!

Art

In Art, year 2 have been creating 3D sculptures, diva lamps for Diwali and autumn tiles. Everyone has been practicing and using different techniques to create textures and patterns on their clay artwork. Here are year 2’s Diva lamps that we created using a coil pot technique.

Geography

In geography Year 2 have been learning about continents. During our lesson, we looked at the different countries in Europe using maps, globes and books. The children identified the different countries in Europe and then labelled them on their own map. After that, year 2 then researched some of the key geographical features found in counties in Europe such as mountains, the weather, rivers and land.

Art

During art, year 2 have been learning about sculptures and have been exploring the different types of sculptures that artists have created from big to small, wide to thin. During our second lesson, year 2 created their own sculpture using newspaper and tape to assemble their 3D piece of art. Everyone loved getting creative and all did an amazing job. Well done year 2!

History

Welcome back year 2!

During history, year 2 are learning about explorers. We began by learning about Christopher Columbus and identifying how timelines are used to show the dates of special events. We then discussed the importance of using maps to show and locate landmarks that have been discovered by explorers. Year 2 then became explorers by using a map of the school grounds to locate landmarks that are familiar to them.
